The diverse ecology of North East Caprivi region, consisting of vast floodplains, riverine vegetation, grasslands & savannah woodlands, is host to a large variety of birdlife which are endemic to these habitats.  Birding enthusiasts visiting Island View Lodge can expect to see a large number of species in the immediate vicinity of the lodge, such as the ever noisy Hartlaub Babblers, Schalows Turaco (Lourie), White-browed Robin Chat (Heuglin's Robbin) as well as Swamp and  Tropical Bou-Bous. 
Yellow Fronted Tinker Barbets, White-fronted Bee-Eaters and a variety of Shrikes, Bul-Buls and Sunbirds, including the rare Shelley's Sunbird, are commonly found in the huge trees at the Lodge.

A boat cruise on the river offers visitors a unique close-up experience of viewing numerous Waterfowl, Herons, Storks, Plovers, Lapwings, Coucals, Red & Blackwinged Pratincoles, African Skimmers, and of course the magnificent African Fish Eagle which inhabit this water wonderland.
